The second edition of the Adi Kailash Parikrama Run will be held in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh’s Dharchula block from October 24 to 26, 2026, as part of efforts to promote adventure tourism in Uttarakhand’s border areas.
According to Assistant Director Tourism Atul Bhandari, the event is among India’s high-altitude and challenging ultra runs. The Uttarakhand Tourism Department is organising the event to promote adventure tourism in remote border regions and support the Vibrant Villages programme.
Gunji village will serve as the main venue and base camp for the event. The races will take place at altitudes ranging from around 10,500 to 15,000 feet across snow-covered and difficult terrain. Participants will pass through strategically and religiously important border areas, including Gunji, Nabi, Kuti and Jolingkong, the base of Adi Kailash.
The 70-kilometre ultra run will start from Jolingkong on October 24 and proceed to Chiyalekh before returning to Gunji. The same day, the 42-kilometre full marathon will also be held. Both races are expected to test participants in high-altitude terrain and demanding weather conditions.
On October 25, the 21-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre run and 5-kilometre run will be organised. These races will begin from Gunji, head towards Kuti and finish back at Gunji. Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) will be held on October 26.
The organisers expect around 1,000 participants to register for this year’s Adi Kailash Parikrama Run. The last date for registration has been fixed as October 10, 2026.
The Tourism Department said the event will also highlight the natural, cultural and spiritual significance of the Adi Kailash region while promoting tourism-related activities in villages located along the border.
