Weather: Cold Wave Grips North India, Light Rain in Delhi-NCR

Severe cold has swept across North India ahead of Christmas, bringing freezing conditions to hilly regions. In Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, waterfalls and rivers have frozen due to plummeting temperatures. To combat the biting cold, residents are relying on bonfires for warmth.

IMD Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a further drop in temperatures in the coming days. While snowfall continues in Himachal Pradesh, western disturbances may cause light rainfall in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8°C, while Adampur in Punjab reported 1.8°C. Dense fog restricted visibility to just 100 meters in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Bathinda, Ludhiana, and Barnala. Rajasthan’s Karauli experienced a minimum temperature of 4.5°C. Higher altitudes in Uttarakhand are expected to see snowfall soon.

Delhi-NCR

Delhi-NCR witnessed light rain and drizzle across several areas, coupled with fog and chilly winds. The weather department forecasts light rain in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan in the next few hours.
