The final reservation list for mayoral and chairperson positions in Uttarakhand’s municipal elections was released on Monday after addressing objections late into the night. The government announced that voting will take place on January 23, with counting scheduled for January 25.
Key changes in reservation patterns have been made for municipal corporations in Srinagar, Haldwani, and Almora. The mayoral position in Haldwani has been designated as open (general category), Almora’s mayoral seat is reserved for OBC candidates, while Srinagar’s seat has been reserved for women.
The Urban Development Directorate worked tirelessly over the weekend and late hours to finalize preparations for the elections. Objections regarding the reservation for mayor, municipal council, and municipal board chairperson posts were resolved as per regulations. The finalized report was then sent to the state government for approval.
To prepare the reservation roster, the Urban Development Directorate adhered to established guidelines. District magistrates also resolved objections in their respective areas following the rules.
