The Election Commission has announced the by-election for the Milkipur Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya district. Voting will take place on February 5, 2025, and the counting of votes will be held on February 8, 2025.
BJP vs SP: A Direct Showdown
The by-election is expected to see a direct contest between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The SP, confident from its victories in 2022 and 2024, aims to retain the seat, while the BJP is determined to strengthen its foothold in the region. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has decided to stay out of the by-election, leaving the battlefield primarily to SP and BJP.
Reason Behind the By-election
The Milkipur seat became vacant after Awadhesh Prasad of SP, who won the seat in the 2022 Assembly elections, resigned following his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Ayodhya parliamentary constituency. This resignation necessitated the by-election.
