One Body Recovered from Dima Hasao Coal Mine, Eight Workers Still Trapped

In Assam’s Dima Hasao district, rescue teams have recovered one body from a 300-foot-deep coal mine flooded on Monday, leaving eight other workers still trapped. The operation involves personnel from the Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, and SDRF.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in the Three Kilo area of Umrangso, where sudden flooding trapped nine workers inside the coal mine. Although the rescue operation began on Monday, it was briefly halted on Tuesday evening due to logistical challenges. On Wednesday morning, the operation resumed with 21 para-divers recovering one body.

Rescue Efforts and Official Response

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed condolences to the deceased worker’s family and assured that the rescue mission is being carried out on a war footing. NDRF Commandant N. Tiwari stated that teams are working around the clock and remain optimistic about reaching the remaining workers soon.
