Sonia Gandhi to Inaugurate Congress’ New Headquarters Today

The Congress Party is set to inaugurate its new headquarters at 9A Kotla Road, named “Indira Gandhi Bhawan.” Former party president Sonia Gandhi will lead the opening ceremony of the six-story building, joined by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.

The plan for the new headquarters was initiated in 2009 with a foundation stone laid by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi. Despite the shift, the historic office at 24 Akbar Road will remain in use for specific functions.

The Historical Significance of 24 Akbar Road
Established as the Congress headquarters in 1978 during one of the party’s most challenging phases, 24 Akbar Road witnessed a triumphant comeback in 1980 under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, cementing its iconic status.
