National Games Thrill Arrives at Tehri Lake, Over 400 Athletes to Compete

For the first time, Uttarakhand’s Tehri Dam Lake is hosting the 38th National Games, with grand preparations underway. The thrilling events of rowing, kayaking, and canoeing (sprint) will feature approximately 400 athletes from 16 states across India, split into two phases.

Competition Schedule

  • Rowing (Phase 1): February 3–5, featuring 80 women and 80 men athletes.
  • Kayaking and Canoeing (Phase 2): February 11–13, with 120 women and 120 men participants.

A contingent of 48 athletes from Uttarakhand, selected from ITBP and BEG Roorkee, will represent the state. These athletes have proven their mettle at national and international levels.

Special Arrangements for Athletes

Accommodations have been arranged in New Tehri, Baurari, and Chamba, with transportation to the event venue at Koti Colony via buses. The venue includes a check-in area, water facilities, toilets, a boathouse, and spectator galleries. Colorful boats have already reached Koti Colony, and a new approach road has been built for easier access.

About the Sports

  • Rowing: A test of team coordination and strength, using oars to propel the boat.
  • Kayaking: Navigating lightweight boats with paddles while seated.
  • Canoeing: Paddling a single-blade paddle while kneeling on one leg.

Training and Aspirations

Specialized training is being provided to Uttarakhand athletes. Rowing coach Rajeev Kumar expressed confidence in their potential to win medals, while coordinator Kapoor Singh confirmed that final preparations and the athlete list are nearing completion.
