Former MLA Champion Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody

Haridwar, January 27, 2025 – Former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion has been sent to 14-day judicial custody following his arrest in a case of firing and assault involving Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar. After being presented before the Roshanabad Court in Haridwar today, the court ordered Champion’s remand. Rinku Verma, In-Charge Joint Inspector Prosecution, confirmed the development. Owing to the sensitivity of the case, heavy police deployment was ensured at the court premises.

Bail Granted to MLA Umesh Kumar

Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar, also presented in court today, was granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Bail was granted upon furnishing two sureties of ₹40,000 each. The atmosphere in the court premises remained tense during the proceedings.

Heightened Security at Court

Hundreds of supporters gathered during Champion’s appearance, prompting strict security measures. SP Dehat Shekhar Sial Chand and PAC personnel maintained order as the court premises and surrounding areas were turned into a heavily guarded zone.

Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion has been accused of firing and assaulting MLA Umesh Kumar at his residence. Charges include attempted murder and other serious offenses. The incident has escalated political tensions in the region.
