Uttarakhand’s daughters have showcased stellar performances at the National Games, securing top honors. Judoka Unnati Sharma avenged her 35-day-old defeat to clinch the gold medal, while Shalini Negi made her mark by winning silver in the 10km race walk.
Unnati Sharma, an alumna of DAV Public School, Dehradun, started judo at the age of 11. After losing to Himanshi Tokas of Madhya Pradesh at the Senior National Championship in January, she resolved to win gold at the National Games, a goal she has now accomplished.
Shalini Negi, hailing from Sekot village in Chamoli, began her race-walking journey just two years ago at the Gopeshwar Sports Stadium. Due to limited awareness about the sport, she often faced ridicule, but with hard work and determination, she has now proved herself by winning silver at the National Games.
