Dehradun- A new initiative is underway in Dehradun to provide employment opportunities and a marketing platform for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) through modern outlets, cafés, and restaurants. Under the guidance of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, plans are progressing swiftly to establish these facilities at four locations—Kachahari Complex, Sudhowala (near Panchayat Ghar), Coronation Hospital, and Guchhupani.
The plan was introduced during a presentation session led by the district magistrate, after which construction work began at a fast pace. These outlets will offer nutritious food and organic products to local residents while also providing SHGs with a structured platform to market their products and gain financial stability.
The outlet at Coronation Hospital will serve patients and their attendants, while the one at Kachahari Complex will cater to visitors looking for local products. The proposed outlet and canteen in Sudhowala will benefit tourists, providing them with easy access to regional goods.
A similar outlet at the Guchhupani tourist site will introduce travelers from across the country to traditional Pahadi cuisine and organic products, thereby boosting the market for local goods and strengthening the financial conditions of self-help groups. District Magistrate Savin Bansal had previously implemented a similar initiative in Nainital, where he helped set up modern kitchens.
This initiative is being launched under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to enhance the livelihood opportunities for women’s SHGs. Each of the four locations is expected to provide employment to approximately 25 women, fostering their economic self-reliance
