Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government is set to bring a proposal to the cabinet for filling vacant principal positions in government inter colleges through direct departmental recruitment. Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat stated that the decision has been made to resolve the long-pending recruitment issue that has been stuck in court. Now, along with lecturers, assistant teachers (LT) will also be eligible for the principal posts.
Currently, out of 1,385 government inter colleges in the state, 1,101 principal posts remain vacant, significantly affecting the education system. Similarly, out of 910 headmaster positions, only 122 have been filled, leaving 788 posts vacant for a long time.
Earlier, the government had planned to fill 692 principal posts through direct departmental recruitment, allowing lecturers up to the age of 50 to apply. However, the exclusion of assistant teachers (LT) led to dissatisfaction among educators, resulting in a legal challenge that halted the recruitment process. While some teachers demanded promotion-based recruitment for principals, others sought inclusion of assistant teachers (LT) in the selection process.
Education Minister Dr. Rawat confirmed that the government will now proceed with direct departmental recruitment, ensuring that assistant teachers (LT) are also eligible. To qualify, candidates must have at least 10 to 15 years of service experience.
