Public Anger Erupts on Nainital Streets, Clashes During Protest March

Despite the arrest of accused Usman in the Nainital minor rape case, public outrage continues to intensify. On Tuesday, members of Hindu organizations held protests across the city, raising slogans and staging a large protest march. Tensions flared as demonstrators clashed with police during the march, which began from Mallital and proceeded toward the municipal office where a gathering was held. Protesters then attempted to march toward the Uttarakhand High Court.

Police tried to stop the advancing crowd near the High Court premises, but failed to hold them back as the protestors continued forward. The situation grew tense as shoving occurred between police personnel and demonstrators.

According to the FIR filed by the victim’s mother, the accused contractor Usman took the girl from the market to his house and allegedly assaulted her inside a car parked in a garage. When she resisted, he reportedly threatened her with a knife and gagged her. The victim was also threatened that if she revealed the incident, her entire family would be killed. The mother further stated in her complaint that she has two daughters from her first marriage who study in classes seven and eight at a private school. Her second marriage took place in 2016 in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh.
