Retired Principal Kidnapped and Murdered, Body Dumped in Canal; Woman and MBBS Husband Accused

Shyam Lal Guruji, a retired principal from a government inter college, was kidnapped and murdered after going missing on February 2. Police have accused a woman named Geeta—known to the deceased—and her MBBS student husband Himanshu Chaudhary of the crime. Acting on Geeta’s instructions, her brother Ajay Kumar and brother-in-law Dhanraj Chawla allegedly disposed of the body in the Sakhan Canal near Deoband. Both men have been arrested, while Geeta and Himanshu remain absconding.

According to SSP Ajay Singh, Shyam Lal’s daughter, Nidhi Rathore, filed a missing person’s report on February 7. Investigations revealed that Shyam Lal had made several calls to Geeta on the day of his disappearance. Call records and CCTV footage confirmed he reached Geeta’s residence via Kishannagar Chowk but never returned. Both Geeta and Himanshu were found missing from their home.

During interrogation, Ajay confessed that on February 2, Geeta had called and informed him about the murder. On February 4, Ajay and Dhanraj allegedly wrapped the body in a plastic sack, transported it in a car trunk, and dumped it into the canal. Police have recovered the motorcycle used by Shyam Lal from a vacant plot near ISBT, along with its broken number plate which had been discarded in nearby bushes to mislead investigators into thinking he had left by bus.

The arrested suspects are currently in three-day police custody for further interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to locate Geeta and Himanshu.
