Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has warned of strict action against schools that violate the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Uttarakhand. He instructed all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to inspect government and private schools and submit detailed reports on RTE admissions.

Chairing a departmental review meeting at his official residence, Dr. Rawat emphasized that all private schools must admit students under RTE norms. CEOs and Block Education Officers (BEOs) will be held accountable for implementation at district and block levels. He also directed that surprise inspections be conducted to check for infrastructure, staffing, and basic facilities. Schools failing to meet standards will face departmental action, including potential cancellation of their NOC.

The Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has also received multiple complaints against private schools for RTE violations. Its Chairperson, Dr. Geeta Khanna, suggested launching an online portal for RTE-related complaints and installing complaint boxes in schools.

Senior officials including Director General of School Education Abhishek Rohila and CEOs from several districts attended the meeting. The department has been asked to implement SCPCR’s recommendations and take action against non-compliant institutions.
