Dehradun, October 11, 2024: District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal conducted a surprise inspection of Dehradun’s cleanliness system early in the morning today, leading to a ₹1.80 lakh fine imposed on three sanitation companies. The inspection aimed to ensure the timely collection of door-to-door garbage and assess the overall cleanliness in the city.
32 Vehicles Found Stationary in Workshops
During the inspection at Survey Chowk and other workshops, the DM found that 32 vehicles designated for door-to-door garbage collection had not departed to their respective wards on time. Out of these, 18 vehicles were found parked near the IT Park, with 8 vehicles reported as broken down. Expressing strong disapproval, the DM imposed a ₹60,000 fine on Ekon and Water Grace, the companies responsible for garbage collection.
Garbage Collection Points Found Dirty
The DM also inspected several Garbage Vending Points (GVPs) across the city. Significant filth was found at the Bhag Singh Colony and Saraswati Vihar Bypass Road GVPs. Sunlight Company, which was responsible for garbage collection in these areas, was fined ₹25,000 for failing to collect the waste properly.

Poor Condition at the Garbage Transfer Center
At the Kargi Transfer Center, the DM observed an excessive accumulation of garbage, with substandard cleanliness practices being followed. The vehicles used for garbage transfer were also found violating the standards. A fine of ₹75,000 was imposed on the three companies responsible for this mismanagement.
Final Warning for Improvement
DM Savin Bansal issued a stern warning to the involved companies, stating that if their performance does not improve, their contracts could be revoked. The companies were given a final opportunity to enhance their operations and meet the city’s cleanliness expectations.
