In a significant move, the Uttarakhand Education Directorate has instructed officials to issue adverse entries in the service records of teachers and principals of government schools where students have performed poorly in the 2025 board exams. The directive comes following the release of the Uttarakhand Board results on April 19, with a pass percentage of 90.77% for high school and 83.23% for intermediate.
Director of Secondary Education Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati has asked all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to identify schools with poor performance and obtain explanations from the respective principals. Based on these findings, teachers responsible for underperformance are to be marked with adverse entries in their service records.
The directive has drawn sharp criticism from the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (Government Teachers’ Association). Its state president Ram Singh Chauhan and general secretary Ramesh Panyuli stated that the move is unjust and amounts to harassment of teachers. They highlighted the persistent shortage of staff in many schools and argued that blaming teachers alone for poor results ignores systemic challenges.
