Dehradun Sizzles at 39.1°C, Monsoon Set to Arrive Early Today

Despite sporadic rain and snowfall in May and June, Uttarakhand is witnessing intense heat whenever the skies clear. On Tuesday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C—four degrees above normal—marking the season’s highest so far. The night temperature was also unusually high at 25.7°C, 2.5 degrees above average, causing discomfort even after sunset. Other regions in the state reported similar heat conditions.

Meanwhile, the monsoon is expected to arrive in Uttarakhand today, six days earlier than usual. The Meteorological Department has predicted that this season the state could receive up to six percent more rainfall than the average. A yellow alert for light rain has been issued for June 11 in parts of Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Nainital, and Pithoragarh.

In the plains, wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h. The forecast also indicates light rainfall and strong winds across the state till June 16, offering much-needed respite from the heat.
