The Uttarakhand Education Department is set to implement a three-tier cadre system by integrating 9,512 junior high school teachers into the LT (Licentiate Teacher) cadre. The department has finalized a proposal outlining this transition and forwarded it to the state government for approval.
The proposal suggests mirroring the structure followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas, which operate under a PRT–TGT–PGT system. Under this plan, out of 11,555 assistant teacher posts in junior high schools, 2,043 will be reclassified as head teachers of primary schools, while the remaining 9,512 posts will be absorbed into the TGT (LT Assistant Teacher) cadre. Teachers will be given the option to choose their preferred placement.
In addition, junior high school headmasters will also be given options and will be adjusted into PGT (lecturer) roles in secondary schools, or appointed as senior headmasters in primary institutions. Notably, no new recruitment or promotions will take place in the previous cadre after this transition.
According to the proposal, out of 1,998 junior high school headmaster positions, 955 will be reassigned as senior headmasters in primary schools and 1,043 as PGTs in secondary schools. Senior headmasters will be posted in development block headquarters, cluster headquarters, and model primary schools.
