Panic gripped the Gumanivala area of Rishikesh late at night after a group of youths in a Haryana-registered car reportedly brandished a pistol at local residents near a Gujjar settlement. As per eyewitnesses, the incident followed a heated altercation between two groups earlier in Rishikesh. The situation escalated when the accused confronted locals while allegedly being chased and cornered near the Gumanivala forest due to a roadblock ahead.
According to reports, the occupants of the vehicle began abusing and threatening villagers. When the locals protested, one of the miscreants pointed a country-made pistol at them. However, the crowd quickly turned on the group, prompting them to abandon their vehicle and flee the scene. In the commotion, the accused also dropped the weapon.
The swift reaction of the villagers prevented any casualties. Police are investigating the matter and have seized the abandoned car and the pistol as evidence. A search operation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding youths.
