Uttarakhand to Set Up First Organ and Milk Bank at Doon Medical College

For the first time in Uttarakhand, an Organ and Milk Bank will be established to enhance healthcare infrastructure. Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat announced that preparations are underway to set up the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), with its first organ bank to be launched at the Government Doon Medical College.

During a departmental review meeting, Dr. Rawat directed officials to initiate the necessary steps for setting up the organ bank at Doon Medical College. He also instructed the establishment of milk banks for newborns at all government medical colleges across the state.

Dr. Atul, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia at Doon Medical College, has been appointed as the nodal officer for the organ bank project. He will coordinate with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) and Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) to complete formalities for SOTTO’s setup in Uttarakhand.

The minister encouraged voluntary organ and body donations and said that interested individuals could register either at Doon Medical College or via the SOTTO website. Additionally, he urged each faculty member at medical colleges to adopt one tuberculosis patient voluntarily.

Other key attendees at the meeting included Director of Medical Education Dr. Ashutosh Sayana, Additional Director Dr. R.S. Bisht, Principal of Doon Medical College Dr. Geeta Jain, and nodal officer Dr. Atul Kumar.
