SIT to Probe Freedom Fighter Descendant Certificate Fraud in Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand government has ordered an SIT (Special Investigation Team) probe into the alleged issuance of fake freedom fighter descendant certificates. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the Chief Secretary to initiate the investigation.

According to the Freedom Fighter Descendant Family Committee, the state offers 2% reservation in jobs and college admissions for first-generation descendants of freedom fighters. However, the committee claims that people from later generations—who have no real connection to freedom fighters—have been misusing the quota by obtaining forged certificates.

These fake certificates have reportedly been used in competitive exams such as NEET to secure admissions under the reserved category. Several cases have surfaced across the country where students gained MBBS seats fraudulently and had their admissions cancelled after verification.

The SIT has been tasked with investigating all applications made over the last five years for medical college admissions under the freedom fighter descendant quota. The team will verify the documents submitted for certificate issuance and identify discrepancies or forgeries.
