As counting continues for the recently concluded two-phase Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand, youth candidates are emerging as the face of a new political wave. With fierce competition in many districts, early results show close contests and a strong voter mandate in favour of young leadership.

In the Karnprayag-Gairsain block, 21-year-old Priyanka Negi has been elected as the Pradhan of Sarkot, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s model village. At just 21 years and 3 months old, Priyanka becomes one of the youngest elected village heads in the state, reflecting the growing trust in youth leadership at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, in Kui village under Pabo block of Pauri district, 22-year-old Sakshi has secured victory in the Pradhan elections. A B.Tech graduate from Dehradun, Sakshi returned to her native village with a commitment to development. Now elected as Pradhan, she aims to apply her technical knowledge to bring tangible improvements in infrastructure and services for the village.

With final results still being declared, these early victories mark a significant shift in local politics—indicating voters’ rising confidence in educated and visionary young candidates.
