The State Election Commission has begun preparations for the Zila Panchayat President and Block Panchayat Head elections in Uttarakhand following the completion of the three-tier panchayat elections. As per the Uttarakhand High Court’s directive, these elections must be held within the minimum possible time after finalising the reservation process.
State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar confirmed that the polls will be conducted shortly after the reservation for the Zila Panchayat President posts is finalised at the government level. The commission is closely coordinating with the state administration to ensure timely execution of the election process.
Meanwhile, more than 30,000 positions for village heads and gram panchayat members remain vacant across the state. The commission has decided to conduct re-elections for these posts and has requested all districts to submit updated vacancy details.
