The State Election Commission of Uttarakhand has announced the schedule for the upcoming elections to the posts of District Panchayat Presidents and Block Chiefs. With the notification issued, the model code of conduct has come into immediate effect in 12 districts.
As per the election schedule:
- Nomination Filing: August 11 (11:00 AM to 3:00 PM)
- Nomination Withdrawal: August 12 (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)
- Polling Date: August 14 (10:00 AM to 3:00 PM)
- Counting of Votes: Immediately after the close of polling
The final reservation list for District Panchayat President posts has also been released. Following the resolution of objections to the provisional notification issued on August 1, the Panchayati Raj Department confirmed that there were no changes in the reservations.
For the first time, the department has implemented the recommendations of a dedicated single-member commission established for OBC reservation in Panchayats. This commission determined reservation allocations from Gram Panchayat Pradhans to District Panchayat Presidents.
A total of 42 objections were received between August 2 and August 5, with most coming from Dehradun. These were addressed by the committee on August 6, after which the final reservation list was issued.
The State Election Commission will now conduct the elections based on this finalized list.
