Uttarakhand Landslides Block Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway

Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has triggered multiple landslides, severely disrupting road connectivity. The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway is blocked at three points near Devprayag after boulders and debris fell onto the road. Long queues of vehicles are stranded on both sides, affecting not only pilgrims and travelers but also essential supply vehicles carrying milk, vegetables, and newspapers.

Near Devprayag Degree College and Mulyagaon, overnight rain caused massive landslides, leaving the route impassable. Teams from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are working with JCB machines to clear debris, but continuous rainfall is slowing down the restoration work.

On the Yamunotri Highway, several vehicles remain trapped near Jungle Chatti due to rockfalls, landslips, and road subsidence. Local residential buildings and hotels in the area are also under threat from shifting soil.

In Karnaprayag, heavy rains since Sunday night have blocked the Badrinath Highway at Gauchar’s Kameda after boulders rolled down the hillside. The Paithani-Nandasan route is also closed due to road collapse at Punagaon. Authorities are working to reopen the highways at the earliest, but weather conditions remain challenging.
