Surkanda Devi ropeway to remain closed for 26 days from August 23 for maintenance

The management of Surkanda Devi ropeway has announced that services will remain suspended for 26 days starting August 23 due to annual maintenance. During this period, devotees and tourists will have to trek a steep 1.5 km climb to reach the temple for darshan.

Ropeway manager C.B. Singh and coordinator Naresh Bijlwan informed that the closure will continue until September 17. The inspection will cover tower and cabin repairs, along with electrical and mechanical works. Engineers from India and abroad will carry out checks on load capacity, wind pressure, and other safety aspects.

The officials urged devotees to cooperate during the maintenance period. Since the ropeway service began, footfall at Surkanda Devi temple has increased nearly threefold, making the facility especially helpful for women, the elderly, children, and differently-abled visitors.
