Uttarkashi Disaster: Supply Shortage Deepens, Eight Villages Struggle After Floods

Even after 20 days of the devastating floods in Khir Ganga and Telgad near Dharali, the crisis in Uttarkashi’s border villages remains severe. With the Gangotri highway still closed for heavy vehicles, residents of Sukki, Dharali, Mukhba, Harsil, Jaspur, Purali, Jhala, and Bagori are facing acute shortages of essential supplies and cooking gas.

The rising water levels in Khir Ganga and Telgad continue to alarm locals. On Sunday night, a sudden surge in Telgad forced residents of Harsil to move to safer locations. Meanwhile, limited ration distribution by the district administration has provided temporary relief but is insufficient for large families.

Former Harsil village head Dinesh Rawat stated that the closure of the highway has worsened the crisis, with cooking gas and essential rations running dangerously low. He urged the administration to restore highway access for heavy vehicles at the earliest.

Adding to the hardships, electricity supply in Dharali, Harsil, and six other villages has remained cut off since Sunday night, leaving families in darkness. From Monday morning, communication services also collapsed in the disaster-hit areas, further isolating residents and preventing them from contacting relatives.
