Ahmedabad to Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games, Modi Cabinet Approves Proposal

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad chosen as the proposed host city. The government described Ahmedabad as an “ideal city” due to its world-class stadiums, advanced training facilities, and strong sports culture.

The decision follows the Indian Olympic Association’s recent approval of the bid after filing an Expression of Interest. According to a press release, the Cabinet also authorized signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA), providing necessary guarantees from ministries and departments, and extending financial support to the Gujarat government.

The final date for submitting the bid is 31 August, and the IOA is expected to complete all required processes within 48 hours. If successful, this will mark India’s second time hosting the Commonwealth Games, after the 2010 edition in New Delhi.
