During the annual Urs of Sabir Pak in Piran Kaliyar, police arrested 13 fake babas under “Operation Kalnemi,” including two Bangladeshi nationals living under false identities. The Bangladeshis were booked under the Foreign Passport Act and sent to jail after being presented in court, while the others were fined.
SSP Pramendra Dobal informed at a press briefing in Roorkee that the operation was carried out jointly by police and intelligence agencies to ensure safety of devotees. Among those arrested, Bangladeshi national Mohammad Ujjwal, who had been staying in Kaliyar under the name “Baba Mohan,” was previously caught in 2020. Another Bangladeshi, Mohammad Yusuf alias Isuf, was also living under the name “Shankar Baba.”
Others arrested included individuals from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Police confirmed that more than ten Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Kaliyar in the last decade for similar offenses.
