Central Team Inspects Tharali, Conducts Aerial Survey of Disaster-Hit Areas

A central inter-ministerial team on Monday inspected disaster-affected Tharali in Chamoli district and carried out an aerial survey of Chepdo, Nandanagar, Karnaprayag, and Joshimath. Later, the team assessed the damage at Government Polytechnic College, Kulsari.

District Magistrate Chamoli, Sandeep Tiwari, presented a detailed report through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighting the destruction caused by heavy rainfall and disasters in Tharali, Chepdo, and Nandanagar. He informed that Chamoli district has suffered losses worth over Rs 115 crore, with maximum damage reported to roads under the Public Works Department and PMGSY.

While human loss remained limited—one young woman died and another person is missing—the disaster displaced several families and destroyed more than 50 shops, leaving many without livelihoods.
