Tehri: The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organized its first 14-day water skiing course at Tehri Lake. A total of 25 students from across the country took part, receiving structured training and practical exposure in the internationally recognized sport.
At the closing ceremony held on Saturday, Chief Development Officer Varuna Agarwal awarded certificates to participants and highlighted the role of adventure sports in boosting youth development, tourism, and new opportunities in the water sports sector. IISM Assistant Director Renu Bamarara stated that the course marks an important step towards diversifying India’s adventure tourism.
She further noted that while Srinagar’s Dal and Nigeen lakes have been traditional hubs for IISM’s water-based activities, the institute is equally committed to promoting Tehri Lake as a prime destination for water adventure sports.
