Dehradun, 2 Nov: Dehradun Hills Academy had hosted students and faculty from The Doon School, Hyderabad House, for a two-day experiential learning programme on campus. The visit strengthened the collaborative learning bond between the two institutions and offered students a meaningful opportunity to explore education through real-world experiences and nature-based learning.
Recently recognised as the Best School in Experiential Learning at the Indian School Awards (ISA) 2024, Dehradun Hills Academy continues to lead with its student-centric, hands-on approach to holistic development. The thoughtfully curated itinerary emphasised observation, reflection, teamwork, and connection with the natural and social environment—true to the school’s philosophy of nurturing grounded, independent, and empathetic learners.
The programme began with a warm welcome followed by a village walk, introducing students to local culture, lifestyles, and community engagement. The evening brought a wonderful blend of sports, music, and bonding as students and teachers from both schools participated in friendly matches, a musical jam session, and a bonfire under the stars. A gratitude workshop conducted by Lobsang Sherap (SC Form) encouraged students to pause, reflect, and appreciate the values of empathy and mindfulness.
Day two started with an early morning trek to the Suswa River and a visit to a nearby dairy farm, where students observed rural sustainability practices and worked hands-on with natural elements. Gardening and organic farming sessions further helped them experience the power of nurturing and the beauty of working with nature. Doon School faculty member Manjot shared, “Watching the sunset from Dehradun Hills Academy was a blissful experience. The way students are nurtured here is commendable. Their social and life skills at this age are truly impressive — DDHA is doing a remarkable job.”
Speaking on the occasion, Yudhishter Puran Singh, Managing Director, Dehradun Hills Academy, said, “We are proud to partner with The Doon School in conducting experiential camps that instill real-life learning and the joy of living with nature. These programs help children stay grounded, curious, and connected with the world around them.” Students later interacted with the Chairman, Sandeep Singh, himself an alumnus of The Doon School, who spoke on the theme “Learning to Read India”. He emphasised the need to connect with the real India — its history, diversity, resilience, and cultural depth — and drew inspiration from leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and celebrated poet Goswami Tulsidas. His message encouraged students to remain rooted, aware, and connected to the soul of India while navigating a rapidly changing world.
Students shared heartfelt reflections, with one noting, “The visit to Dehradun Hills Academy was an eye-opening experience. The trek and the gratitude workshop helped me connect with nature and reflect on myself.”
This enriching collaboration between The Doon School and Dehradun Hills Academy reaffirms the impact of experiential learning and the strength of educational partnerships that prioritise character-building, emotional intelligence, and real-world understanding.
The program was conceptualised and coordinated by Simmi Kunwar, Millan Kohli, Ganesh Chettri, Abhay Pratap Singh, and Salonica Dabral.
