A tragic accident in Tehri district on Monday claimed the lives of five pilgrims from Gujarat. A bus carrying 29 devotees to the Kunjapuri temple fell nearly 70 metres into a gorge near Narendra Nagar. Officials confirmed that four men and one woman lost their lives in the accident.

The bus was travelling from Gujarat to Kunjapuri temple when it slipped off the road near the Hindolakhal–Kunjapuri route. As soon as information reached the district control room, Tehri District Magistrate and police teams rushed to the spot. SDRF officials also deployed five rescue teams from Dhala Wala, Koti Colony, and the SDRF headquarters.

Local residents immediately began rescue efforts, helping pull survivors out of the damaged vehicle before official teams arrived. SDRF and police personnel continued the rescue until all injured passengers were brought to safety. Officials said three seriously injured people were admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, while four others were taken to the Shri Dev Suman Sub-District Hospital in Narendra Nagar. Seventeen passengers were reported to have minor injuries.

District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt said the number of casualties could be confirmed only after the rescue operation. The administration is now investigating the cause of the accident while ensuring treatment and support for the survivors.
