Dehradun – A serious road accident occurred early Thursday morning on the Dehradun–Haridwar Highway near Bhaniyawala, where a bus collided with a stationary sugarcane trolley. The bus driver, identified as Yogendra Singh (51), a resident of Dilshan, Modinagar, Ghaziabad (UP), died during treatment. The incident has once again raised concerns about highway safety and the frequent practice of leaving heavy vehicles parked on the roadside without warning signals.

According to police, the crash took place around 5:55 am near Nunnawala Gurudwara. The impact crushed the front section of the bus, trapping the driver between the bus and the trolley. SDRF Jollygrant rescue team, led by Chief Constable Robin Kumar, reached the site and freed the trapped driver. He was taken to Himalayan Hospital by 108 ambulance, where he succumbed to injuries.

Local residents say that heavy vehicles parked on the highway without reflectors or safety measures pose a constant threat, yet preventive enforcement remains weak. Despite repeated accidents on the Dehradun–Haridwar stretch, questions are being raised over why basic safety standards are not being monitored.

The condition of the other injured is under treatment.
