A fatal road accident occurred near Raitoli in Rudraprayag district where a truck lost control and plunged into the Alaknanda river, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident took place on Saturday night near the Raitoli petrol pump on the Rudraprayag main route.
According to officials, the goods-laden truck was travelling from Rishikesh towards Rudraprayag when it went out of control near the petrol pump and fell into a deep gorge leading to the river. On receiving information, teams from the police, SDRF and DDRF rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Rescue work proved challenging due to darkness and the steep slope at the accident site. After considerable effort, the rescue teams managed to pull the driver out of the damaged truck and rushed him to the hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Kotwali Rudraprayag in-charge Suresh Chandra Baluni confirmed that only the driver was present in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The deceased has been identified as Sagar, a man of Nepali origin. His body has been kept at the district hospital mortuary, and the vehicle owner has been informed.
