Haldwani: Tiger attack reported in Peepalpokhra village

A 60-year-old woman was reportedly attacked and taken away by a tiger in Peepalpokhra village under the Fatehpur forest range in Haldwani. The incident occurred when the woman had gone to the forest to collect grass.

According to local information, Ganga Devi, a resident of Peepalpokhra, had gone to the forest along with two other women on Thursday. The accompanying women later informed villagers that a tiger attacked and dragged her away.

Police and forest department teams, along with local residents, launched a search operation in the area. At the spot, officials recovered the woman’s saree and some hair, but she had not been traced at the time of reporting.

Village head Vinod Singh Nigltiya said that the Station House Officer of Mukhani police station and forest officials are conducting a joint search in the forest area. The operation is ongoing as teams comb the surrounding region.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over increasing wildlife movement near human settlements in the Haldwani region. Authorities have urged residents to avoid entering forest areas alone until the situation is assessed.
