Vande Bharat Gift for Purvanchal: Meerut-Lucknow Train to Extend to Varanasi

Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division has initiated plans to extend the Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express to Varanasi. The Railway Board has approved a survey for this extension, and the direct service between Varanasi and Meerut is likely to begin in the new year, offering significant convenience to passengers from Purvanchal.

This will be the first direct train service between Varanasi and Meerut. Currently, major stations like Varanasi, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur lack direct train connectivity to Meerut. The proposed extension is expected to benefit passengers from these regions.

The Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express, which began operations on August 31, faced a shortage of passengers. In response, extending the train to Varanasi was considered. According to railway officials, a survey is underway to determine the route, stoppages, timings, and fares. The decision comes after demands from public representatives and letters sent to the Ministry of Railways.
