A high-level multidisciplinary committee has been constituted by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to investigate the cause of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. The crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when flight AI-171, bound for Gatwick Airport, London, met with a catastrophic accident shortly after take-off.
According to the ministry, the newly formed committee will not only investigate the technical and procedural causes of the crash but also examine existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and emergency protocols. The aim is to identify shortcomings and recommend comprehensive guidelines to prevent and manage such incidents in the future.
DGCA Orders Intensified Safety Checks
In response to the crash, aviation regulator DGCA has ordered intensified safety checks for all Air India-operated Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. This move is part of immediate precautionary measures being taken across the aviation sector.
NIA and AAIB Begin Parallel Investigations
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also visited the crash site on Friday, accompanied by officials from other central security agencies. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which operates under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has officially begun its own probe into the incident. The AAIB is responsible for classifying and investigating safety-related events in Indian airspace.
The government emphasized that the newly formed committee will work independently and its role will be forward-looking, aiming to strengthen preventive protocols rather than overlapping with ongoing investigations by other agencies.
