In the wake of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, a high-level meeting on civil aviation safety will be held today under the chairmanship of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan. According to sources, the meeting has been convened specifically to review aviation safety protocols and emergency response mechanisms following the devastating incident.
The crash occurred on June 12, when Air India’s London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft collided with a medical hostel building in the city. Of the 254 people on board — including 12 crew members — only one passenger, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, survived and is currently undergoing treatment.
So far, the death toll has reached 274, including those who were in the hostel and surrounding areas affected by the impact and subsequent fire. Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed that 45 victims have been identified through DNA matching with their relatives.
Among the deceased is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. His mortal remains will be handed over to his family at 11:30 AM from Civil Hospital today. The body will be flown to Rajkot and is expected to arrive by 2 PM. His final rites will be performed at 5 PM with full state honours.
