India successfully tested the indigenous Akash Prime air defence system at an altitude above 15,000 feet in Ladakh. The surface-to-air missile system accurately hit high-speed aerial targets during the trial, conducted in the presence of top DRDO officials. Designed for high-altitude operations, the system will now be inducted into the Army’s third and fourth air defence regiments.
Defence officials revealed that Akash Prime had already proved its effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, where it neutralised aerial threats from Chinese aircraft and Turkish drones deployed by Pakistan. Its performance during these encounters demonstrated its capability in countering multi-nation aerial attacks, especially along the western borders and the LoC.
Part of India’s Make in India initiative in defence, Akash Prime is a medium-range system capable of protecting troops and strategic assets from aerial attacks. It features advanced real-time multi-sensor data processing and simultaneous target engagement, enabling it to tackle multiple aerial threats from various directions. With widespread deployment along sensitive regions, Akash Prime has significantly boosted the country’s air defence capabilities.
