DEHRADUN, 8 Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be here on Sunday, is scheduled to address a grand public rally on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the State. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set a target of mobilising nearly one lakh people for the event, with the party office-bearers, Ministers, MLAs, and MPs assigned specific responsibilities to ensure a massive turnout. The main programme will be held on the grounds of the Forest Research Institute (FRI), where the PM will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of developmental projects worth over Rs 8,000 crore.
According to administrative sources, the Prime Minister will arrive at the venue at 11:40 am, where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, senior party leaders, and Ministers will receive him. The event is expected to witness the presence of top dignitaries from across the state, and the PM is scheduled to remain in Dehradun for more than two-and-half hours before returning at 1:30 pm. He is also expected to meet a group of distinguished persons during his visit to FRI. Preparations for the programme have been underway for several days, with both the government and the party organisation working in coordination to ensure a memorable celebration befitting the state’s Silver Jubilee.
It may be recalled that the State Government has planned the occasion as a grand milestone in Uttarakhand’s journey of progress, intending to send out a strong message of development and unity. Extensive arrangements have been made at the FRI grounds, where tent work has been in progress for the past nine days. The preparations are in final stages. While the official sources expect a turnout of over 70,000 people at the venue, the BJP is claiming to ensure a turnover of over a lakh visitors, eager to hear the PM’s address. An exhibition highlighting Uttarakhand’s 25-year journey, along with details of major ongoing and completed projects, has also been set up at the venue.
Modi is scheduled to launch and lay the foundation stones for several key schemes of the Energy, Tourism, and Public Works Departments (PWD). Among these, the Kedarnath Ropeway Project and the Jamrani Dam Project stand out as the most significant, both expected to bring about major transformation in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions respectively. The PM may also interact with selected beneficiaries of state schemes to gather feedback on their implementation and impact.
In view of the PM’s programme, traffic on major routes across the capital will remain diverted till 4 pm tomorrow and the Police have issued a detailed traffic management plan in this respect. The event is expected to draw participation from all sections of society, including former Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, intellectuals, and eminent citizens.
It may be recalled that President Droupadi Murmu had visited Uttarakhand just days before the Prime Minister’s arrival, during her two-day tour of the state, where she attended a convocation ceremony and paid obeisance at Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram. The series of high-profile visits coincides with a month-long celebration marking 25 years of Uttarakhand’s formation, with events being held across different parts of the state. The Silver Jubilee year is also being viewed as an occasion to strengthen the government’s developmental narrative ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Commenting on the PM’s visit to Dehradun tomorrow, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed that the entire state is eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister’s visit. He remarked that Sunday, Nov 9, will be a historic and significant day for Uttarakhand, as the Prime Minister is set to gift the state with numerous development projects.
