With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to begin on July 3, the Jammu and Kashmir government has intensified preparations to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a Unified Command meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday to review the prevailing security situation and direct necessary measures for a terror-free yatra.
The LG instructed security agencies to make comprehensive arrangements with tight security protocols and eliminate any potential terrorist threats. He stressed the need for strict action against terrorists and their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and lauded the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ in foiling the nefarious plans of Pakistan-backed terror outfits.
The meeting also included a detailed review of security for the Baba Barfani pilgrimage route and discussed the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and counter-terror operations. Attendees included Northern Command Army Chief Lt. Gen. Prateek Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and other key officers from security and civil administration.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing the recent security concerns, acknowledged that the Pahalgam terror attack had impacted tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the government is prioritising the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra with heightened security measures being implemented across the region.
