In a major breakthrough, the Uttarakhand STF and Mumbai Crime Branch jointly arrested Kamran Ahmed, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, Delhi, from the Clement Town area in Dehradun for allegedly supplying weapons to an international wildlife smuggling gang. The accused was residing in Keshav Kunj, Turner Road, at the time of his arrest.
According to STF SSP Navneet Bhullar, Kamran was a key supplier of illegal arms to a gang involved in wildlife poaching. The weapons were used to hunt protected species. Multiple cases are already registered against Kamran in Mumbai and Delhi, and he has previously served jail time under the Arms Act.
On July 2, Mumbai Crime Branch informed the Uttarakhand STF about the arrest of two members of the international gang, who were found in possession of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition. During interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that the weapons had been supplied by Kamran from Dehradun.
Acting on the tip-off, a team was formed by the STF and the accused was arrested from his residence. The investigation into the wider network and possible links to wildlife trafficking and other criminal syndicates is now underway.
