Haldwani: Despite crores of rupees being spent every year in the name of improving passenger facilities, ground realities continue to raise concerns. A prime example is the Motahaldu railway crossing on the Lalkuan–Bareilly rail route, where commuters face long delays due to frequent failures of the automatic gate system.
According to locals, the automatic system installed at the crossing malfunctions repeatedly, forcing the gateman to manually open and close each gate. This often leads to long queues of vehicles on both sides. Schoolchildren, office-goers, and even ambulances are regularly stuck in the resulting traffic jams.
Residents argue that while the railway administration makes tall claims about adopting modern technology and systems, lack of proper maintenance undermines these efforts. As a result, the public continues to suffer daily inconvenience.

Local people have urged the railway authorities to urgently repair the automatic gate system at Motahaldu crossing to ensure smooth traffic movement and provide much-needed relief to commuters.
