Dehradun: Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (SGRRIM & HS), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM), organized awareness rallies under the theme “One Health One Nation.” The rallies were simultaneously held at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) Mothrowala, School of Nursing of SGRR University, and Khurbura sub-centres of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Students actively participated, spreading awareness about environmental protection, health, and the impact of unplanned urbanization.
Dr. Puneet Ohri, Head of the Department of Community Medicine at SGRRIM & HS, said that the aim of the rally was to make people aware of the challenges posed by unplanned urbanization, its effects on the environment, and its adverse impact on both human and animal health. He highlighted the One Health concept, emphasizing that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected.
At the Mothrowala centre, the rally was led by Dr. Rahul Sharma, Medical Officer In-charge of RHTC. The event was attended by Dr. Sonika, Dr. Vishal Kumar, faculty member Subhash Ramola, PRO Pramod Kanyal, health inspector Manju Bhatt, nursing faculty Naresh, and several nursing and community health students including Deeksha Rawat, Sojan, Anjali, Tanu, Gaurav, Samuel, Shabnam, Kajal, Ranjan, and Lalita.
Participants carried banners and posters, raising slogans to promote cleanliness, environmental conservation, and sustainable lifestyles. A street play by nursing students creatively depicted issues such as rapid urbanization, poor waste management, and loss of biodiversity, delivering a strong message on environmental protection and public health.

Dr. Rahul Sharma stated that “Unplanned urbanization not only strains basic infrastructure but also disrupts the ecosystem, increasing the risk of disease transmission between animals and humans. Through this rally, we aim to encourage communities to adopt healthier and eco-friendly lifestyles.”
