Mussoorie, 9 Oct: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, a special seminar and awareness programme was organised at the Town Hall under the joint aegis of the Municipal Corporation of Hilldari and the social organisation, Kin. This programme not only boosted the morale of employees but also initiated a positive discussion on the sensitive topic of mental health. The programme discussed aspects related to mental health in detail.
The keynote speaker, mental health expert Nishant (Mental Health Centre), used simple language and engaging activities to educate participants on how to reduce mental stress during their daily lives and work. Nishant said, “Mental health is not just a disease; it also affects our everyday thinking, work habits, and relationships. Mental health is as important for every individual as physical health.” He also taught employees how to maintain mental balance through simple methods such as meditation, communication, and cooperation.
The seminar was attended by 110 employees of the Kin organisation and 42 waste pickers from the city. Participants showed keen interest in the topic and asked many questions.
Rajneesh Dobriyal, Executive Officer of the Hilldari Municipality, was the Chief Guest. He said, “Such programmes are a major step towards mentally empowering a segment of society that is typically isolated from these issues.”
SI Virendra Singh Bisht from the police department was also present. He stressed on the need to focus on the mental health of waste pickers and workers. It is worth noting that World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. It was established in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, with the aim of spreading awareness about mental health worldwide. Ashok Kumar, Shubham, Jyoti, and their team from Kin organisation, along with Nisha, Deepika, Leela, Deepak, and other members of the Hllidari team, also played an active role in making the event a success.
