The Chamoli district administration has temporarily suspended the Badrinath Dham and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage in view of the heavy rainfall alert issued by the Meteorological Department. District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of devotees. According to the weather forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in the district on August 12, 13, and 14. Considering the risk, the Kedarnath Yatra has also been suspended for three days.
District Magistrate Prateek Jain informed that all departments have been directed to remain on alert mode. The warning system has been tested, and residents living along riverbanks have been advised to move to safer areas. For uninterrupted emergency response, JCB and Poklen machines have been deployed round the clock at danger zones along national highways to clear blocked routes promptly. Police, Public Works Department, and disaster management teams are on continuous alert, while the water level of rivers is being closely monitored.
