The date for opening the doors of Shri Badrinath Dham was formally decided on the occasion of Vasant Panchami at the Tehri royal court in Narendra Nagar. According to the decision, the doors of Shri Badrinath Dham will open at 6:15 am on Thursday, April 23, while the traditional Gadu Ghada oil kalash yatra will commence on Tuesday, April 7.
The date was finalised during a religious ceremony held at the Tehri Rajmahal, attended by members of the royal family, temple officials and religious representatives. After traditional worship and detailed Panchang calculations, the Raj Purohit Acharya Krishna Prasad Uniyal declared the auspicious date in the presence of Maharaja Manujyendra Shah. With the announcement, the schedule of the Gadu Ghada oil kalash yatra was also confirmed.
Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) chairman Hemant Dwivedi said that preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage have begun immediately after the declaration. He stated that work plans related to travel arrangements will be finalised soon, with simultaneous focus on winter pilgrimage management and the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. Dwivedi extended greetings to devotees and invited pilgrims to participate in the Char Dham Yatra.
Before the ceremony, representatives of the Shri Dimri Religious Central Panchayat formally handed over the Gadu Ghada oil kalash to the royal court. The programme was conducted with traditional rituals and Vedic chanting, maintaining long-established customs associated with the opening of the Badrinath temple.
The ceremony was attended by Maharaja Manujyendra Shah, Member of Parliament Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, BKTC officials including vice presidents Rishi Prasad Sati and Vijay Kapruwan, Chief Executive Officer Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, Rawal Amarnath Namboodiri, temple committee members, religious scholars, Dimri Panchayat representatives, administrative officers and devotees.

The announcement marks the formal beginning of preparations for the annual Char Dham Yatra, which holds significant religious importance for devotees across the country.
