Closing Date for Shri Badrinath Temple to Be Decided on Vijay Dashami

The closing date for the portals of Shri Badrinath Temple will be announced on 12th October 2024 Vijay Dashami.

The closing date for the portals of Shri Badrinath Temple will be ceremoniously decided on 12th October, the day of Vijay Dashami. The event will take place in the Shri Badrinath temple complex following the traditional Panchang (Hindu calendar) calculation. The program is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM, and the closing date for the temple will be formally announced during the ceremony. Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chairman Ajendra Ajay will be present at the occasion.

BKTC media spokesperson Dr. Harish Gaur shared that traditionally, the portals of Shri Kedarnath and Shri Yamunotri temples are closed on the auspicious day of Bhai Dooj, which falls on 3rd November this year. Similarly, the portals of Shri Gangotri Temple will close on Annakut Govardhan Puja, which is on 2nd November during the Abhijeet Muhurat. The official closing dates for Gangotri and Yamunotri temples will be announced separately by their respective temple committees. It is also noteworthy that the holy portals of Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib and Lokpal Tirth will close on 10th October.

On the same day, the closing dates for the portals of the second Kedar, Shri Madmaheshwar, and the third Kedar, Shri Tungnath, will also be announced. The annual Madmaheshwar fair and the winter migration schedule of the sacred deities to their winter abodes will also be declared. Additionally, the formal date for the closure of the portals of Shri Kedarnath and the departure of the Panchmukhi Doli (procession of the deity) to its winter seat at Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath will be confirmed.

The program will see the presence of Rawal Amarnath Nambudiri, BKTC Vice Chairman Kishore Panwar, committee members, officer-in-charge Vipin Tiwari, Dharma Officer Radhakrishna Thapliyal, Vedic scholar Ravindra Bhatt, and other distinguished guests. On this occasion, the temple committee will also honor the traditional rights holders (Hak-Hakookdhari) with symbolic turbans, acknowledging their role in the temple’s storage and management during the upcoming pilgrimage season.
