Chief Minister Dhami Announces Formation of Border Area Development Council in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the fourth Border Mountain Children’s Science Festival in Guptkashi, announcing the formation of a Border Area Development Council to expand facilities and services in Uttarakhand’s frontier regions. The CM also declared that innovation centres would be set up in border districts to provide training and information related to disaster management, health, and education.

Speaking at the state-level event organized by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Chief Minister Dhami interacted with young scientists from various districts on topics such as climate change, disaster management, renewable energy, and water conservation. He emphasized that the event would give direction and opportunities to talented young scientists from the state’s remote and mountainous areas.

Dhami highlighted India’s progress in innovation and self-reliance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting that the nation is making remarkable achievements in research, technology, and space exploration. He also mentioned that Dehradun will soon become home to India’s fifth Science City — a major milestone for Uttarakhand.

To strengthen the state’s disaster management capabilities, the Chief Minister directed the Rudraprayag District Magistrate to prepare a plan for setting up a Disaster Management Centre and announced Rs 50 lakh for development works at PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bansu Jakhadhar. He also honoured Padma Shri Kalyan Singh Rawat, entrepreneur Indra Singh Rawat, and Dr. Patni of Seemant Sewa Foundation for their outstanding contributions. Additionally, he unveiled the UCOST Rudraprayag Dashboard Book, a GIS-based remote system integrating departmental data on a single platform.

The theme of the fourth Border Mountain District Children’s Science Festival — “Climate Change Adaptation Strategies and Disaster Risk Management Integration” — aims to promote discussions on climate resilience and the sustainable management of natural resources.
